Ah, Liste. In some ways, the enterprise based in Basel, Switzerland, is the most pleasurable of all the world’s art fairs, with formidable sausages on offer down on the street in front of the former Warteck brewery that it calls home, wonderfully venturesome galleries hawking their wares (many quite new to the business), and relatively inexpensive German and Swiss beer flowing like the river Rhine. In others ways, though, it is all a bit maddening—the crowds on opening day are wild, one fears falling off the building’s outdoor staircases, and the layout is insane. But those are really charms of the event, aren’t they?
In any sense, Liste, which began back in 1996 with 36 galleries, just released a list of 79 dealers who have made the cut for its 2018 edition, which will coincide with Art Basel. They were selected from more than 350 applications, the fair said, and they hail from a remarkable 32 countries. Among the names new to the fair this year are Chapter NY and Bodega, both of New York, Maria Bernheim, of Zurich, and Ivan, of Bucharest. (An asterisk in the list below denotes new galleries.) Outfits returning to the fair include New York’s Bridget Donahue, Paris’s Balice Hertling, and London’s Arcadia Missa. And now, the list for the fair, which runs June 11 through 17.
