On Thursday, signs were posted renaming a portion of the 134 Freeway in Southern California after former President Barack Obama, according to ABC News.

The President Barack H. Obama Highway extends from Route 2 in Glendale through Eagle Rock and to Pasadena by Interstate 210.

Obama has a history in the area. He lived in Pasadena and attended Occidental College in Eagle Rock from 1979 to 1981. He later transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he graduated in 1983.

State Sen. Anthony J. Portantino introduced the designation for the Obama highway in 2017.  The politician will also have a portion of Rodeo Road, which is located in a mostly African-American community named after him.

Obama was the 44th US president first and the first African-American to hold the position. There will be numerous schools, streets and highways named in his honor including one in Illinois, where he served as a senator before moving to the White House.
