Krista Clark, Stopped Westviews Through Ontario

VIA ARTADIA

The Brooklyn-based nonprofit Artadia has the winners of its 2018 Atlanta Artadia Awards: Krista Clark and William Downs. Given annually to artists based in the Greater Atlanta area, the awards come with $10,000 in unrestricted funds.

Clark’s prints were featured in the Studio Museum in Harlem’s “Fictions” exhibition and recently added to the High Museum of Art’s permanent collection. Downs has shown his work as venues such as the Chattahoochee Valley Art Museum in La Grange, Georgia, and Mission Space in Baltimore.

Finalists for the award included Krista Clark, Ariel Dannielle, Danielle Deadwyler, William Downs, and Erin Jane Nelson. Andrea Barnwell Brownlee, director of the Spelman College Museum of Art, and Sarah Higgins, curator of the Zuckerman Museum of Art at Kennesaw State University, selected Clark and Downs from that pool of finalists.

In a statement, Brownlee and Higgins said, “We were inspired by the rigor and sheer talent of artists Krista Clark and William Downs. The sophistication of their practice, ambition for their future plans and intentionality behind their decision making punctuate why they are 2018 Atlanta Artadia Awardees. We are excited to watch how this recognition propels these two deserving artists into the next stage of their career and practices.”
