The nonprofit Artadia and the Marciano Art Foundation have joined forces to create the Marciano Artadia Award, which will be given annually to a Los Angeles–based artist. The inaugural prize, to be presented in March, will include an unrestricted grant of $25,000.

The application period for the award runs through February 1, and it will be followed by a two-tiered jury process, with curators and artists serving as panelists. After six finalists are selected in the first round, second round jurors will visit the artists’ studios. The jurors will then select three artists as the 2019 Los Angeles Artadia Awardees, one of whom will be chosen as the recipient of the Marciano Artadia Award.

This is Artadia’s fifth year providing unrestricted prizes of $10,000 to two Los Angeles-based artists through its annual awards program. The winner of the Marciano Artadia Award will receive the additional $15,000.

Artadia’s executive director, Carolyn Ramo, said in a statement, “Artadia is thrilled to partner with the Marciano Art Foundation. We share a common goal of supporting the diverse Los Angeles artistic ecosystem. As L.A. increasingly becomes a city for artists, we are pleased to be recognizing and providing vital funds and validation to the talent found here.”
