Caitlin Haskell will be the new curator of international modern art at the Art Institute of Chicago. She will start in her post in July, and begin working with the museum on a part-time basis later this month.
Haskell has been an associate curator of painting and sculpture at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art since 2016, and began at that institution in 2012 as an assistant curator. Some of her curatorial credits at SFMOMA include “Paul Klee and Josef Albers: Parallel Construction” in 2012; “Open Ended: Painting and Sculpture, 1900 to Now,” an ongoing exhibition begun in 2016, and surveys of work by Edvard Munch, Alexander Calder, and René Magritte. Before her tenure at SFMOMA, Haskell was a fellow at the Menil Collection in Houston and a research and teaching assistant at the Center for the Study of Modernism at the University of Texas at Austin.
“This is a dream collection for any twentieth-century specialist to inherit, and to be able to grow it and activate it in a city as vital as Chicago is an opportunity I could not be more excited to embrace,” Haskell said in a statement.
