Art Basel has revealed details about the artworks that will be featured in the Buenos Aires edition of its Cities program, which will take place from September 6 to 12.

The 18 artists featured in the exhibition, titled “Hopscotch (Rayuela)” and curated by High Line Art director Cecilia Alemani, have conceived works that will be situated in plazas, parks, abandoned buildings, and other structures across three neighborhoods in the Argentinean capital. (And two artists—Narcisa Hirsch and Alexandra Pirici—have joined the lineup since ARTnews first announced it.)

Maurizio Cattelan will stage Eternity (2018), a temporary cemetery for the living, in Palermo Park, with various local artists contributing tombstones. Not far away, in the Botanical Gardens, Eduardo Navarro will present Polenphonia (2018), an improvised symphony performance by seven flutists.

David Horvitz’s Señalamiento del cielo (Signaling the Sky), 2018, will involve the release of 200 helium balloons at several different times and places—in front of the Biblioteca Nacional Mariano Moreno, on the waterfront in La Boca, and outside the Ex Cervecería Munich brewery in Costanera Sur.

A mural by Barbara Kruger, titled Untitled (No puedes vivir sin nosotras / You Can’t Live Without Us), 2018, will cover an old grain silo in Puerto Madero, reading in part, in Spanish, “You can’t live without us / power / pleasure / property / equality / empathy / independence / doubt / belief / women.” And Alex Da Corte’s Kermit the Frog, Even (2018), a replica of a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon damaged in 1991, will be displayed in the Arenas Studios, which occupy former factory buildings.

The show will be accompanied by a series of more than 30 artist talks—hosted by András Szántó, an author and cultural strategy consultant, and Mariano López Seoane, the talks program coordinator for Art Basel Cities—and masterclasses.
