Lisa Schiff, a New York–based art adviser, will open an art space in the city’s Tribeca neighborhood on May 29. Programming at her New York space kicks off with a Nicholas Galanin project curated by Neville Wakefield.

At the end of last year, Schiff announced that she had signed a 10-year lease for her 1,300-square-foot, two-floor space on White Street. Over the past couple years, White Street has become a hotspot for art enterprises—Ortuzar Projects opened there in 2018, and Artists Space is currently in the process of relocating to the street.

Schiff told ARTnews she realized that she wanted to select curators to oversee placing artworks in the space’s window area on an annual basis. She cited Barbara Gladstone, a pioneering New York dealer, as an influence, adding, “The smartest thing Barbara did was surround herself with these really incredible curators. A lightbulb went off in my head that said I couldn’t curate my own window.”

A monotype by Galanin, whose piece White Noise, American Prayer Rug (2018) was a standout at the Whitney Biennial, will be the first of those pieces to be displayed in the window. “I love the first thing [Wakefield] picked!” Schiff said. “It was somebody I’d never heard of. How great is it to be an art advisor and get to keep learning about other people?”
