Three investigations were brought to an apparent conclusion when arrests were made over the past week. Although Prince George’s County cases, a homicide suspect and multiple suspects in separate robberies were apprehended in Philadelphia, PA and Montgomery County.
Homicide Detectives Make Arrest in District Heights Shooting
Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit detectives charged a suspect in connection with a recent homicide in District Heights. Marquis Gilliard, 28, of the 1600 block of Forest Park Drive in District Heights was charged in the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Ernest Bowman II of Northwest, Washington.
On July 15 around 10:30 pm, patrol officers were called to the 8000 block of Ritchboro Road for the report of a shooting. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found Bowman outside suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The preliminary investigation found the suspect and victim knew each other. Gilliard allegedly shot and killed Bowman after an argument. Gilliard is charged with first and second degree murder and other related charges. He was taken into custody in Philadelphia July 22 and is in the process of being extradited back to Prince George’s County.
Five Teens Arrested for Armed Robbery
Five teenagers were arrested after robbing a pharmacy retail store in Clinton at gunpoint then leading police on an automobile chase that ended in Montgomery County. Three of the suspects are reportedly from the District, one is from Alexandria, VA, and the other, who is a girl, is a minor whose information hasn’t been released.
The group is believed to have targeted the pharmacy located in the 8000 block of Branch Ave. in Clinton around 1:35 am on July 16. Moments after the robbery, Prince George’s County Police patrol officers found the car and the pursuit began with help from their aviation unit. It ended just after 2 a.m. in Montgomery County. No one was hurt during the pursuit where the suspects crashed their car on the Georgia Avenue exit ramp to the Beltways and all five suspects were apprehended without incident.
Those identified suspects are David McKinney,19, and Keondre Reed, 17m of Northeast, D.C. Corey Nelson, 18, of Southeast, D.C. and Rodney Wood, 17, of Alexandria, VA who are being charged as adults. The fifth suspect, a teenage girl, has been charged as a juvenile.
Each faces robbery charges in this case.
Bank Robber Arrested Within Minutes
Saleem Muhammad, of the 4000 block of First Street in Southwest, D.C. was arrested less than five minutes after he allegedly robbed a bank in Oxon Hill on July 15.
The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested Muhammad very shortly afterwards around 12:20 pm after patrol officers and Robbery Unit detectives were notified of a bank robbery on Audrey Lane. Responding officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect within minutes later at a fast food restaurant in the vicinity of the bank. Officers recovered evidence from the robbery on Muhammad and he has been charged with robbery, theft and related charges.
He is being held without bond.
