Pictures at an Exhibition presents images of one notable show every weekday.

Today’s show: “Viva Las Fotos: A Day of the Dead Memorial for Laura Aguilar” is on view at Avenue 50 Studio in Los Angeles through Saturday, November 3. The group exhibition presents work from Aguilar’s “Day of the Dead Coffin,” shown in its entirety for the first time, alongside work by other artists in remembrance of the seminal Chicana photographer, who died earlier this year. The exhibition was organized by Christopher Velasco, Aguilar’s longtime studio manager, and Sybil Venegas, the curator of the artist’s solo show last fall at the Vincent Price Art Museum in Monterey Park, California, as part of the Getty Foundation’s Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA initiative.

Participating artists include Monica Almeida, Amina Cruz, Sandra de la Loza, Mercedes Dorame, Ruben Esparza, Christina Fernandez, Star Montana, Delilah Montoya, Monica Orozco, Aydinaneth Ortiz, Miguel Angel Reyes, and Ricardo Valverde, among others. The exhibition also includes two altars for Aguilar, which were created by Barbara Carrasco, Yreina Cervantez, and Venegas.
