A Blade of Grass, an organization that provides support for social-practice artworks, has named its 2018 ABOG Fellows for Socially Engaged Art. Six artists and two collectives will each receive $20,000 in unrestricted funding for projects that will be realized across the United States.
Brian Harnetty, whose project aims to facilitate environmental awareness through sound and conversation, is the 2018 ABOG Fellow for Contemplative Practice. Gregory Sale, the 2018 ABOG David Rockefeller Fund Joint Fellow in Criminal Justice, will collaborate with incarcerated individuals to create artworks that will allow them to envision new futures for themselves.
“Building upon histories and heritage is going to be a very interesting theme this year, and I think that it’s [coming] at a moment when it’s a very reactive time, politically and culturally,” Deborah Fisher, the executive director of ABOG, told ARTnews. “It’s nice that we have a year that’s very much about reflecting on what has been.”
