The born-digital art and culture organization Rhizome has announced the details of the 2019 edition of its annual Seven on Seven conference, which will occur on April 27 at the New Museum in New York.
Co-organized by Rhizome staffers Michael Connor, who’s its artistic director; Zachary Kaplan, its executive director; and Aria Dean, its assistant curator, Seven on Seven is an event that pairs together figures from the worlds of art and technology for a single-day creative summit that asks selected duos to make something new. Through the years, the conference has incubated many memorable pairings of artists and tech folk; for example, in 2017, the artist Jayson Musson teamed up with Buzzfeed founder Jonah Peretti to create “Blockedt, the anti-social social media.”
The 2019 edition should be no less memorable, highlights of which include the pairing of American Artist with AI Now Director of Policy Research Rashida Richardson and the artist Matthew Angelo Harrison with Trevor McFedries, the cofounder of Brud, which is the company behind the “virtual celebrity” Lil Miquela.
