The final film of Tyler Perry’s Madea franchise, A Madea Family Funeral, brought in a whopping $1.1M during its preview night, more than any other film of the series, according to Deadline.

Madea’s swan song bumped Boo! A Madea Halloween down to second place ($855K) and even surpassed Perry’s 2018 film Acrimony starring Taraji P.  Henson ($1M). The comedy is projected to earn $17M-$21M opening weekend.

Perry originally planned to kill off the sharp-tongued matriarch, but decided against it, telling TODAY, “She doesn’t die. She’s a family member… to a lot of people. You can’t kill off a family member.”

He did confirm, however, that this will be her final appearance in a Tyler Perry Production.

“Listen, I’m turning 50 this year, I don’t want to be her age playing her, OK?” he told anchors Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin Wednesday. “It’s been a great run, the franchise has been amazing, and it’s done a lot of things for a lot of people, I think it’s time.”
