The National Sexual Assault Hotline saw a noticeable increase in phone calls on the same day Lifetime aired its Surviving R. Kelly documentary.
A spokesperson for Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) told The Daily Beast that its hotline received 27 percent more calls on Thursday; increases are common once the topic of sexual assault and abuse is in the news.
RAINN’s hotline provides emotional support and resources to callers.

The six-part documentary featured interviews with women who allege that R. Kelly sexually abused them, as well as sit-down conversations with family members, those who worked with him and reporters.
The R&B singer has denied the allegation and plans to launch a website meant to “expose” those who accused him on the Lifetime series as liars, according to TMZ.
