Lucia Borgonzoni, the under secretary for culture in Italy, who is a member of the right-wing League party, is not pleased about France’s efforts to borrow works from the county for a major Leonardo show next year that is tied to the 500th anniversary of his death. The Times explains her position: “France had treated Italy with ‘a lack of respect’ and like a cultural ‘supermarket’ by ‘sending a shopping list’ of the works it wanted to borrow—essentially everything.” The director of the National Gallery of Parma said, “It’s a total Italian soap opera.” [The New York Times]
