The United States Secret Service stopped two “potentially explosive devices” that were addressed to former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Tuesday, 10/23, according to multiple reports.
The Secret Service confirmed the news on Wednesday, 10/24, stating that the Obamas and the Clintons were not at risk of receiving the packages and they were found during a “routine mail screening procedures as potential explosive devices and were appropriately handled as such,” as told to CNN.
The package intended for the Obamas was sent to their Washington, DC home and the package for the Clintons was sent to their home in Westchester County, a New York City suburb, per CNN.
The world reacted and condemned the threat to the prominent leadership of the Democratic party including conservative pundits, which took many by surprise.
Steve Schmidt, a veteran Republican strategist who has worked on the campaigns of President George W. Bush, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and late Arizona Senator John McCain took to Twitter to express his disdain with a hostile political climate he blamed on President Donald Trump.
Trump has stoked a cold civil war in this Country. His rallies brim with menace and he has labeled journalists as enemies of the people. That someone would seek to kill their political enemies is not aberrational but rather the inevitable consequence of Trumps incitement.

The targets are political not coincidental. Trump, the greatest demagogue in American history has celebrated violence over and over again. It looks like someone finally took Trump both literally and seriously. The WH will feign outrage when this obvious point is made.

Yesterday, 10/24, CNN reported that more suspicious packages had been uncovered that were sent to Sen. Kamala Harris, former Attorney General Eric Holder, Rep. Maxine Waters and CNN’s headquarters in New York.
All of the packages were intercepted by the Secret Service placing politicians and newsrooms on high alert.

I saw Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer had a joint statement yesterday. But wouldn’t it have been better to have joint statements from Schumer and McConnell, and Pelosi and Ryan? And couldn’t Trump have invited Presidents Obama and Clinton to the White House for a joint appearance?
