Nationwide — Leah Flynn, a 10-year old violin extraordinaire, is going viral for her recent tribute performance of “Natural Woman” to the late Aretha Franklin. (Watch the YouTube Video). Leah has largely captivated audiences around the world with her God-given musical talent and a pure heart of gold.
Her journey as a violinist extraordinaire is an inspirational story of tragedy turned triumph. When Leah’s mom was just three months pregnant with her, her dad, Lennox, had a stroke – forcing him to transition into the role of a stay-at-home dad and music coach. Leah has been playing the violin for five years now.
Leah aspires to inspire other children to love and appreciate music as much as she does through the organization Heart For Strings (www.heartforstrings.org), founded by her parents Lennox and Paula Flynn. Leah’s goal is to inspire other children, especially African-American children, to love and appreciate music as much as she does.
In today’s orchestras, less than 2% of the players are African-American, and Leah desires to be the first African-American to tour the world and perform alongside major symphonies, much like her favorite violinist Sarah Chang. As a classical violin soloist, Leah comments, “I would inspire so many children to play the violin or another instrument as well”.
