The Seattle Art Fair has established an acquisition fund with the Frye Art Museum to add works from the fair to the institution’s collection. For the forthcoming edition, running August 2–5, the fair will give $25,000 to the museum, whose director, Joseph Rosa, and curator, Amanda Donnan, will select works for acquisition and present them for board approval.
Funds of the kind have been established at other fairs around the United States, such as Frieze New York, the Dallas Art Fair, and NADA Miami, which have allotted funds to institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Pérez Art Museum Miami.
In a statement, Rosa said of the new partnership, “It was the intention of our founders to have an inclusive mission, to provide the residents of Seattle with free access to the arts. In keeping with our goals to support the local artistic community as well as to bring global perspectives to the region, we will acquire works that add new important voices to our collection.”
