The Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art at Augusta University in Georgia has received the third annual Ellsworth Kelly Award. The award, administered by the Foundation for Contemporary Arts in New York, comes with $40,000 and recognizes an exhibition at a regional American art museum or college or university art gallery.

The museum will put the award toward a solo exhibition by Atlanta-based artist Bojana Ginn. Born in Yugoslavia, Ginn is a sculptor whose works explore the interactions between humans, technology, and nature. Her exhibition is slated to open in fall 2019 and will be curated by Shannon Morris, the director of the Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art.

In a statement, Stacy Tenenbaum Stark, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts’s director, said, “The Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art mirrors Ellsworth Kelly’s belief in supporting emerging, mid-career, and under-recognized artists. FCA is pleased that the 2018 Ellsworth Kelly Award will be the first to support an exhibition outside of a major metropolitan area, and the work of a local artist.”
