After the Los Angeles screening of Lionsgate’s Uncle Drew on June 17, co-stars Lil Rel Howery and Nick Kroll spoke to EBONY correspondent Shawn Edwards about their favorite basketball movies and NBA superstar Kyrie Irving’s acting skills.
Howery revealed his favorite was the documentary Hoop Dreams, the story of two Chicago high school students and their pursuit to become NBA stars. The comedian who is a native of the Windy City said he had a chance to meet Arthur Agee, one of the players in the doc, after seeing the inspiring film as a reward for making the honor roll.
The pair later discussed how Irving transitioned from the NBA court to the silver screen. After Howery graded his skill level a perfect 10, Kroll said, “You forgot that he’s Kyrie and that he’s a young man. It’s an impressive performance.”
Uncle Drew will be in theaters on June 29.
