Jennifer Y. Chi, who was named chief curator and deputy director of the Brooklyn Museum in September and began her tenure there in November, is no longer at the institution, ARTnews has learned. A spokesperson for the museum confirmed her departure this afternoon, saying in an email, “The museum is grateful to Dr. Chi for her efforts in pursuing departmental restructuring, refining curatorial processes, and highlighting the museum’s extraordinary collections, and we wish her well.”
Chi, whose last day was Monday, came to the museum after a decade as the exhibitions director and chief curator of the Institute for Study of the Ancient World at New York University. Her position at the Brooklyn Museum had previously been held by Nancy Spector, who came aboard in April of 2016 and left in early 2017 to become artistic director and chief curator of the Guggenheim Museum, where she had worked for 29 years before heading to Brooklyn.
The museum declined to comment on the nature of Chi’s departure, and Chi did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
