While Omari Hardwick is a phenomenal actor, the POWER star has plenty more to offer the world. Not only does he kill the big and small screen, but will soon be showcasing his several other talents on-stage in a new one-man show sure to break your preconceived notions about the gorgeous leading man.
The award-winning thespian is set to star in The Billie Holiday Theatre’s HerO: A Work in Progress, where he will showcase his talents as a poet, musician and more.
“Omari Hardwick avails himself of the creative algorithm and platform of RestorationArt with The Billie Holiday Theatre, innovating on the one-man-show, as HerO blends storytelling, poetry, rap, photographs, video and live music,” reads the press release. “His personal journey as a Black man in America connects to topics that are driving national conversations in the 21st century in America: gun violence, relationships, and Black fatherhood.”
Written by Hardwick along with co-writer Grant Sullivan, HerO: A Work in Progress is directed by the Executive Director of RestorationART and The Billie Holiday Theatre, Indira Etwaroo, and will show for one night only.
“‘A true journeyman can never be too forgiving. For that is how and why they are able to journey,’ is a through-line of HerO that has emerged from my life,” shared Hardwick. “To be able to launch this journey of my own one-man show that I hope will travel with me and evolve over the next decade at The Billie Holiday Theatre, theater home to the largest Black community in the nation – as a Black artist, that’s very special.”
Etwaroo shared his excitement over the project as well.
“When I was approached about this work and had the chance to hear Mr. Hardwick express his vision to bring this story to the sacred space of theater, I was moved not only by the power of the story, but the poeticism infused throughout the narrative. Working with such a passionate team of people to bring this story to the stage is a testament to the significance of Black artists and Black-led institutions coming together to present work by us, about us and for us.”
HerO: A Work in Progress will be presented one night only in two performances on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 7 pm and at 9 pm at The Billie Holiday Theatre, 1368 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11216.
Tickets are now available for $20 at www.thebillieholiday.org.
