The Kennedy Center is officially closed indefinitely, but not before President Trump called into a meeting with its board members.
According to one board member, Trump went on a tirade that can only be described as “f-cking crazy,” reports CNN.
His vitriol was directed at Democratic congresswoman Rep. Joyce Beatty, who filed a lawsuit in 2025 that’s making Trump have to fight through red tape to get his name added to the Kennedy Center.
Other sources say Trump screamed and yelled at Beatty for getting the courts involved, blaming her for the center collapsing.
Beatty, who represents Ohio, spoke to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Tuesday night after news of the explosive meeting went public, and she corroborated the account of Trump being highly upset.
“The president threw a tantrum. I think he was upset because he had lost, and it had been reported. There was a lot of things that I thought were very unprofessional,” Beatty said. “So, he picked the wrong person to try to attack my character and to berate me. I was not going to let him tell me that he thought I was incompetent.”
“He threw a tantrum. It was like an immature child,” she described. “I wouldn’t even want to put this on a child.”
She said his “personal” rant against her also included him saying he’d hold her “personally responsible” if the ceiling fell in at the Kennedy Center and injured someone.
A federal judge ruled that his name would not be added to the building, and a proposal to add an inscription thanking him for the renovation was shut down, with U.S. District Judge Casey Cooper saying it “bucks a federal court order and a statute Congress enacted.”
He added, “Simply put, Defendants cannot install memorials for President Trump or anyone or anything else at the Kennedy Center without Congress’s blessing.”
So, the Kennedy Center was shut down, and Trump then hopped on Truth Social and warned that repairs wouldn’t take place until the building bore his name next to Kennedy’s.
“The Board of The Kennedy Center today agreed, almost unanimously, to close the Building for Safety reasons, and so that it can begin the process of Reconstruction,” he wrote. “The closing will take place immediately, however, the Renovation and Reconstruction, which is a very large and complex job, cannot begin until such time as the D.C. Circuit rules on the Board’s approved name.
Kerry Kennedy, the sister of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., called Trump’s behavior a “tragedy” and a display of “corruption.” Maria Shriver, JFK’s niece, described Trump’s quid pro quo decision as “small-minded” and “narcissistic”
