From Hollywood matriarch Tina Knowles to civil rights activist Tamika Mallory, their personal diaries will become open books filled with triumph and tragedy.
Memoirs can be messy tell-alls (and we love those too), or they can also be meaningful sources of inspiration. There’s no shortage of powerful memoirs available this season. Delve into the depths of what it takes to raise superstars, the road to building a beauty empire, and tales of self-love and championship that leap off the page. Here are seven Black books to add to your reading list this Spring.
Matriarch: A Memoir – Tina Knowles (April 22, 2025)
Ms. Tina Knowles is peeling back the veil on her life story in the upcoming memoir Matriarch. Between the binds, she’ll share how she built a family full of talented and tenacious daughters. Knowles has been a central figure in the entertainment industry for decades. But outside of the occasional classy clap back or cute corny joke time, we’ haven’t gotten to hear from her often’ve barely heard her story.
