After polling Black community members and analyzing various dog owner surveys, we’ve compiled a list of the top 10 most preferred dog breeds among African American families. Did your furry friend make the cut?

Small but full of personality, Boston Terriers are affectionate and intelligent dogs. Their compact size makes them great for urban living, and their playful nature makes them perfect for families with kids.

Labs are one of the most popular breeds in America, and for a good reason. They’re friendly, highly trainable, and great with kids, making them an ideal choice for African American families.
Pitbulls top the list as the most preferred dog among African American households. Their loyalty, affection, and strength make them incredible family pets when raised in a loving environment. Despite negative stereotypes, Pitbulls are known for their gentle and protective nature with their families.
