Tasha Cobbs Leonard is the living embodiment of “do it anyway.” Not only is that the title of her 60-day devotional, but it’s also her life’s mantra.
The singer recently appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show where she shared details of the moment she met her husband of almost 8 years, Kenneth.
“We are both church kids, so we met at a worship conference,” she said. “I was doing a rehearsal, and he was the music director for the band. When I came out to do the rehearsal, they were doing the wrong version of William Murphy’s ‘Praise Is What I Do,’ and I was like, ‘Who’s in charge here? It’s the wrong song!’”
Kenneth then approached her ready to be of service.
“So, he stands up and says, ‘Hi, my name is Kenneth Leonard. I am the MD. How can I help you? Whatever you need, we’ll have it done by tonight,’” she said. “And I was like, ‘Who’s this? You need to meet my energy. If I’m screaming, you need to scream.’ He has been the calm to my storm since that moment, and we became the best of friends.”
It’s a sweet story that culminated in the blending of their families and the birth of their son Asher. Cobbs Leonard also shared how Asher is a growing drumming prodigy.
“It’s real,” she said. “At first, we thought it was a little funny, like everybody [was saying] ‘Oh, he can play the drums.’ No, he can play, play. It’s real. We have pictures of Asher when he was like 3- or 4-months holding drumsticks in his hand. He was born with that gift.”
Asher also has big ambitions. He told Cobbs Leonard that he will be playing drums for her during a show. She confirmed that it will happen.
During her sit-down with Jennifer Hudson, Cobbs Leonard also spoke about her “Do It Anyway” Devotional and conquered a challenge from Hudson to freestyle in different genres of music. You can check out that clip here.
