Football fans are in for a holiday treat this Christmas Day, when the Baltimore Ravens take on the Houston Texans, followed by a thrilling matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFL has tapped two music legends, Beyoncé and Mariah Carey, to headline the first-ever NFL Christmas Game Day, set to take place at NRG Stadium in Houston and live streamed on Netflix. Both icons will deliver exclusive performances, creating a memorable game for viewers.
Scheduled to kick off at 3:30 PM CT / 4:30 PM EST, Beyoncé will be returning to her hometown of Houston for a special set, according to a press release. The 43-year-old star will perform tracks from her acclaimed album Act II: Cowboy Carter, marking the first time the global superstar has ever performed songs from the project live. Beyoncé will reportedly perform during the halftime period of the NFL Christmas Game Day showdown against The Ravens and Texans. The news is special as the last time that the 32-time Grammy-award-winning star headlined an NFL halftime performance was in 2016 when she stole the show at Super Bowl 50 alongside Coldplay.
To build up some hype for the inaugural NFL Christmas Game Day event, the “Texas Hold ‘Em” hitmaker appeared in a Netflix ad, Dec. 11, decked down in an all white ensemble along with a fuzzy cowboy hat. Bey beamed with pride as she stood in front of a tall cactus plant adorned with bright and festive Christmas decorations. Before strutting off, the musical giant pointed her finger at the top of the tree, lighting the beautiful piece with an imaginary pistol shot before smiling and heading off camera.
The indisputable Queen Of Christmas, Mariah Carey, will kick the game off with a pre-recorded performance before the Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs take to the field at the top of the special, according to USA Today. “This Christmas, we all get our wish,” the 55-year-old said in an exciting promo clip for the forthcoming holiday special that dropped on Dec. 12 via Netflix’s official Instagram Account.
Fans are hyped for the upcoming Christmas special and talking up a storm on social media.
“Finally getting the Mariah x Beyoncé collab we deserve,” wrote one user on Instagram.
“OMG! BEYONCÉ And Mariah Carey? This is going to be the best Christmas ever!” another fan penned.
Tune in to Netflix on Dec. 25 to see Mariah and Beyoncé throw down during the NFL Christmas Game Day special.
