Celebrity influencer Amber Rose‘s speech at the Republican National Convention on Monday night was widely hailed by CNN’s panel of political analysts covering the event.
Van Jones, who was on the panel, seemed especially taken by Rose’s brief address in Milwaukee and showered her with praise for what he said was the speech’s effectiveness despite the absence of any true substance.

In her speech, Rose — who was identified in part as being a rapper even though that has never been her profession — ripped the media for “lies” about Donald Trump.
“I’m here tonight to tell you, no matter your political background, that the best chance we have to give our babies a better life is to elect Donald Trump president of the United States,” Rose told the audience at the Fiserv Forum. “I’m no politician and I don’t wanna be, but I do care about the truth, and the truth is that the media has lied to us about Donald Trump. I know this because for a long time, I believed those lies.”
Rose never elaborated on what those alleged “lies” are, but CNN’s panel didn’t seem particularly concerned about them. They admitted to not even knowing who Amber Rose was before Monday night.
Instead, they were more enamored with the fact that Rose boasts tens of millions of social media followers.
Especially Van Jones.
He called Rose’s address “probably the most dangerous speech for the Democratic coalition” in part because of her social media following.
“That is a young woman of color,” Jones continued. “She is describing the experience a lot of people have, feeling that maybe if you’re around liberals you might get criticized too much, you might not be able to speak your mind, and she spoke to it really well, and she’s way more famous than any of us up here.”
Jones took his rhetoric a few steps further: “To the extent that these guys are trying to bust up our coalition, that was a bunker buster right there.”
He then suggested she could have a future in politics, noting that he “would not be surprised if she doesn’t have a political future.”
Back in 2016, Rose’s views of Trump weren’t so, well, rosy.
“He’s a fucking idiot. He’s just such an idiot,” Rose told the Cut at the time. “He’s so weird. I really hope he’s not president.”
What a difference eight years makes.
