New York’s Joan Mitchell Foundation has tapped Kay Takeda to be its new senior director of artist programs.
Takeda joins the foundation this June, stepping down as vice president of grants and services at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, where she has worked since 2005.
The announcement coincides with the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans putting out an open call for applications to its artist-in-residence program, which focuses on artists based in the city. (A separate program serves artists from throughout the United States.)
Takeda said in a statement to press, “Joan Mitchell was not only at the vanguard of American abstraction, but forward-thinking in endowing a foundation to assist generations of artists in developing and sharing their creative work. This is a mission I have long shared and it’s an honor to help steward such an important vision and resource into the future.”
