Donald Trump has regularly touted his intellectual prowess; on Jan. 6, he even declared himself “a very stable genius” on Twitter.

However, several media organizations are reporting that Trump’s White House Chief of Staff John Kelly has allegedly referred to the president as `an idiot,’ on multiple occasions. Kelly has characterized those reports as, “total BS.”

“I spend more time with the President than anyone else and we have an incredibly candid and strong relationship…He always knows where I stand and he and I both know this story is total BS,” Kelly said in a statement yesterday.

NBC News was the first to report on Kelly’s alleged characterization of Trump. According to NBC, White House staffers claim Kelly believes he is protecting the nation from an impulsive and uninformed president.

“…Kelly portrays himself to Trump administration aides as the lone bulwark against catastrophe, curbing the erratic urges of a president who has a questionable grasp on policy issues and the functions of government. He has referred to Trump as “an idiot” multiple times to underscore his point, according to four officials who say they’ve witnessed the comments,” NBC reports.

This is not the first time that a member Trump’s cabinet has allegedly disparaged the president.

According to numerous media reports, former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson allegedly referred to Trump as a, “f-ing moron,” after a July 20 meeting at the Pentagon. Tillerson never officially denied the comment. Trump fired him in March.

According to a report in Vanity Fair former National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster allegedly dismissed Trump as an “idiot” a “dope” and a “kindergartener,” during a July dinner with Oracle C.E.O. Safra Catz. Trump also fired McMaster in March.
