Kanye West’s anticipated interview with Breakfast Club host Charlamagne finally hit the web and the rapper opened up about how hurt he was that JAY-Z and Beyoncé didn’t go to his wedding, his relationship with radio, how the fashion world treated him and if he ever got an apology from President Obama after he was called a jackass.

The interview was conducted at his home in Los Angeles on April 18, prior to his tweets expressing his love for President Donald Trump and comments about slavery.

Below are some of the highlights from the almost two-hour interview. We included timestamps for your convenience.

[01:47] Despite his last album Life of Pablo being well received, Kanye was looking for other forms of validation in the form of radio plays. He said the incident involving Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards changed his relationship with radio, especially since songs from 2007’s Graduation were played on the radio frequently.

“Ever since the Taylor Swift moment, it’s never been the same, the connection with radio,” he said. “It was much harder after that.”

[03:36] Kanye said that he felt “helpless” after his wife Kim Kardashian-West was robbed in Paris. He said that he went to to the “City of Lights” with Kim to help her with her fashion looks and that the robbers waited for him to return to the U.S. for them to rob her at gunpoint.

[09:36] Kanye said that parts of his breakdown were incredible because it allowed others to see who he was.

[15:20] On JAY-Z’s song “4:44” he talked about being hurt by Kanye after his rant at one of his shows.

“You give him $20 million without blinking. He gave you 20 minutes onstage, f*ck what was he thinking?,” JAY-Z said on the song.

Kanye says that the money came from Roc Nation, who was managing him at the time as part of a touring deal. Kanye said that the comments made it seem like the money came directly from JAY-Z, which wasn’t the case.

[18:40] The rapper said that he hasn’t seen JAY-Z in awhile, but that the two text one another.

[21:11] Kanye said that he was “hurt” that JAY-Z and Beyoncé did not go to his wedding.

“I was about them coming to the wedding.” “I understand they were going through somethings, but if it’s family, you’re not going to miss a wedding.”

[32:50] Kanye said that when he was released from the hospital following his breakdown, he had lost his confidence.

“I never had the empathy for people who lacked confidence,” he said. “I had so much of it, I didn’t know what it was like to be without it.”

[43:40] Kanye said that after he met President Donald Trump it reminded him of the Chappelle Show skit of a Black man who is part of the white supremacist movement.

He said that people felt that the same person who said George W. Bush doesn’t care about Black people, couldn’t be in support of Trump.

[1:06:24] “This was the ‘Ye’ that wanted to do something to change something,” he said. “I would meet with him today and I would talk about Chicago.”

[45:45] He said that he felt like President Barack Obama was perfect, comparing him to Nike, but that he wasn’t willing to change anything about Chicago, which he described as the “murder capital of the world.”

[54:27] Kanye said prior to Obama running for office, the two met because he was Obama’s favorite artist of all time.

[56:10] The Yeezus rapper said Obama never apologized when he called him a “jackass” following the Taylor Swift episode. He felt that Obama should have communicated with him directly since the two have a history.
