Need a reality TV fix in the wake of Love Island and I’m a Celebrity? Look no further than The Exhibit: Finding the Next Great Artist, a new series running on MTV and the Smithsonian Channel focused on finding the art stars of tomorrow. Seven emerging artists, including performance artist Jillian Mayer and painter Jennifer Warren, compete for the main prize: the chance to show an “original work” at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, along with a prize of $100,000. The museum’s director, Melissa Chiu, leads a rotating panel of art world judges, including the multi-disciplinary artist Adam Pendleton, who cast their eye over “commissions” created and inspired by works in the Hirshhorn collection. The trailer promises tension and excitement, with Chiu pondering a piece and declaring: “I think it’s a really big statement.” The show, hosted by Dometi Pongo, an MTV news correspondent, launches on MTV on 3 March. Remotes at the ready!
