Today was a beautiful day (75 degrees!, finally!) to explore the Smithsonian Arts + Industries Building’s FUTURES and #IfThenSheCan exhibition. A nearly 32,000 square feet of immersive site-specific art installations, interactive works, working experiments, inventions, speculative designs, and “artifacts of the future,” as well as historic objects and discoveries from 23 of the Smithsonian’s museums, initiatives, and research centers. This exhibition is for all ages but will be impactful for the younger generation. These exhibits are a perfect way to expose the young to the future and hopefully generate curiosity.
The main reason for the visit was to specifically witness the 120 life-size 3D-printed orange statues of contemporary #WomenInSTEM. You find these statues sprinkled inside and outside in the Smithsonian Gardens. As I entered the Smithsonian Garden, I saw different generations of women and girls, so excited to learn about each statue. If you decide to go, make you charge your phone. Each statue will have a QR code associated with it so that you learn more about the woman. The other amazing part was that some of the women depicted in the exhibit were there in the Smithsonian Garden sharing about their trailblazing work. A fun and uplifting afternoon.
