Last year, I learned about A Spectacular Black Girl Art Show through Instagram. Once I discovered the exhibition, I had the DMV date marked on my calendar. Last month, I finally attended the exhibition and was impressed by the variety of artists present. I was surprised to learn a few artists traveled from out of state to showcase their work at the DMV exhibition. Clearly, this exhibition series hits the mark for many artists. Joshua Dingle is the founder of A Marvelous Black Boy Art ShowA Spectacular Black Girl Art Show, and Feels ATL. Since 2019, Dingle has curated over 40 exhibitions featuring over 400 local artists that generated over $650k in art sales. In 2021, the exhibitions expanded to Washington D.C, Chicago, and Houston.
It was an overall fun experience getting to speak with the different artists and vendors on-site. I highly recommend people to buy a ticket so they can meet and buy from local Black. I purchased a digital print and two t-shirts to be supportive. If you want to see the DMV exhibition, I recommend checking out my Instagram Reel.
