Ai Weiwei in Piccadilly Circus Circa
Ai Weiwei went back to Piccadilly Circus last weekend. Last year the Chinese artist and activist broke records by posting an hour-long film on Piccadilly Circus’ famous billboards, a first for Europe’s largest screen. On 30 October, he returned to the famous London location, this time to launch the first fine #CIRCAECONOMY print priced at £5,000 produced by the eponymous digital art platform (go to: circa.art).
“The new work explores the value of £100 and what it could buy in the UK when CIRCA launched onto the global stage in 2020,” the organisers say. Proceeds from the sale of the "£" print will go towards supporting the CIRCA free public art programme in London, Tokyo, Seoul, Milan and New York as well as fund the #CIRCAECONOMY initiative, helping support creative communities. Circa also presented a ten-minute film at Piccadilly Circus featuring over 1000 submissions received to the question, “Where do we go from now?”
