Moving Image Art Fair Postponed Following Participating Galleries’ Economic Concerns -ARTnews – News On Media

The Moving Image Art Fair has postponed its 2018 New York edition, citing economic concerns from participating galleries. In an email, Ed Winkleman, a cofounder of the fair, told ARTnews, “It’s always been our goal in Moving Image to prioritize the needs of our galleries and their artists in how, where, and when we produce the fair.” The fair has yet to confirm a new date, but said it would be announcing one within the coming weeks.

According to Winkleman, several galleries expressed concern about participating in this year’s New York edition of Moving Image, as they hadn’t reached their sales goals at other fairs. To move forward with the fair would then go against Moving Images’ founding credo, he said. “We’ve made adapting the model, the fee structure, and the location of the fairs a cornerstone of our commitment to connecting galleries who support artists making moving-image based artwork with the institutions and private collectors who acquire their work,” Winkleman said.

Moving Image was founded by Winkleman and Murat Orozobekov, and has held editions in New York, London, and Istanbul. In the past, its New York edition has been held during Armory Week.
