Givens recently spoke with Andy Cohen about the movie and her feelings on the abusive past she shares with the athlete. In 1988, they were briefly married until the actress filed for divorce claiming he “threatened to kill me,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

While in conversation with Cohen on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, she shares she hopes truth is the end result.

“It’s hard not to feel deeply disturbed by it, you know what I mean?” Givens remarks.

Givens maintains that the truth does not change.

“I believe truth is truth… It’s Monday, 7:45 Pacific Time, there are certain things that are true and not true, and for somebody to take history and re-purpose it or write what they want is so deeply upsetting to me,” she says.

“I don’t want to get bogged down in that… We’re living in this time now where people can say all kinds of things and if you say it loud enough, people believe it.”

The Boomerang actress also spoke with Bevy Smith on the show who inquired if she hoped the biopic would treat her kinder now that the real story. At the time, Givens was labeled a gold digger after her swift divorce from her abuser and treated unfairly.

“How can I say no to that, of course, yes…I think, in many respects, what happened to me gave me a voice, but not only for myself but for other women that were in my position,” she remarks.

Givens continues, “I think it’s just a different climate, I hope so and I hope the movie reflects that.”

There are no details about the current stages of development of the biopic. In June, Foxx shared he had begun the transformation process a few months prior on an excited Instagram post.
