A Baltimore man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after he admitted to strangling his pregnant girlfriend according to prosecutors.

Victor Robinson, 42, of the Winston-Govans neighborhood of North Baltimore called police on the morning of September 8, 2018 and told police his girlfriend had been kidnapped for ransom.

Shortly after, Robinson made another phone call to 911 from the 300 block of Independence St., saying a person was unresponsive. When police arrived, they found Shawna Davis, 26, of the 2700 block of Parkwood dead on a bench at a playground.

Davis was allegedly six to eight weeks pregnant.

Police said Robinson told them Davis was using heroin, but an autopsy later showed she had no drugs or alcohol in her system, but she showed signs of being strangled.

According to detectives,  he admitted to arguing with Davis, closing his hands around her neck and choking her. DNA evidence confirmed the crime prosecutors said.

Robinson was scheduled to stand trial this week in Baltimore Circuit Court. But, he pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison with all but 40 years suspended.

“Her life was abruptly cut short by the hands of her partner and her unborn child was never given the opportunity to live,” said Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby in a statement. “This case is particularly heartbreaking and vehemently reiterates our commitment to always pursue justice on behalf of our most vulnerable victims,” she added.
