Former NAACP President Kweisi Mfume, cruised to a landslide victory in a special primary election on Feb. 4, to regain Maryland’s 7th Congressional District seat he once held. “I give thanks to God for such an overwhelming victory, and I thank the voters for their trust in my leadership. I know the community, and the community knows me. I’ve fought all of my life with my heart and soul, to listen, learn and lead. We can drive down the murder and violence in our community, protect food stamp and housing assistance, increase the minimum wage and provide, medicare and pension protection again for families by electing bold and proven leadership. With that in mind, I thank God for the leadership that the AFRO has demonstrated in every Congressional District race by providing voters with the information they need to make informed decisions that change our lives. Thank you, again,” Mfume said in an exclusive statement to AFRO. To the left (in red) is his wife, Dr. Tiffany Mfume. (Photo courtesy of Twitter @Mfume4Congress)
