Issa Rae continues to make great business moves when she isn’t in front of the camera. Raedio, the music label she launched with Atlantic Records last year, has acquired music supervision firm Bonfire Collective, according to Billboard.
“Music in TV and film has long been a passion of mine,” said the Insecure star in a statement to Billboard. “Benoni [Raedio President Tagoe] and I are so excited to partner with Bonfire Collective to expand into music supervision. Our aim will be to continue to champion artists and bridge the gap between them and music placement opportunities.”
Bonfire Collective Founder and Creative Head Stephanie Diaz-Matos is slated to now join Raedio as head of music supervision and its production music library. Bonfire Collective has offices in Los Angeles, New York, and New Orleans and will formally operate under Raedio.
Diaz-Matos tells Billboard, “Issa is a creative force whose love of music and compassion for artists permeates every aspect of what she does. I immediately connected with Issa over a shared passion for all things music and soundtracks. Her energy is contagious, and that energy drives our mission at Raedio. We are committed to creating the most diverse, resourceful, creative group of music supervisors whose passion for pairing music and picture is undeniable. The Raedio team of supervisors are poised to service projects in all mediums from the traditional to the innovative. I can think of no better partner than Issa and the team at Raedio to break new ground in the music space with.”
Raedio’s role will be the in-house music supervision team for Issa Rae Productions and ColorCreative, encompassing creative, licensing, and clearance. ColorCreative was founded in 2014 by Rae and is a directive dedicated to creating more opportunities and raising visibility for women and minority writers inside and outside the studio system.
Bonfire Collective’s credits include the series Godfather of Harlem, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, and The Get Down as well as partnerships with top brands like Target, Old Navy, Squarespace, and Samsung. The Starz series P-Valley is the first project that Raedio and Bonfire Collective worked on together.
Diaz-Matos launched Bonfire Collective as a way to bring all her favorite creative forces under one roof. Bonfire Collective is able to provide full-service music supervision for a multitude of industries.
