ESPN national correspondent Sal Paolantonio has a new multi-year agreement with ESPN that will call for the experienced reporter and host to expand his role by serving as in-booth analyst for an NFL game on ESPN Radio. On Sunday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. ET, he will work ESPN Radio’s broadcast of New York Giants at New York Jets, along with play-by-play voice Marc Kestecher and on-field commentator Ben Hartsock. He has worked as a reporter for NFL games on ESPN Radio in the past, yet this is his first time in the booth as game analyst.
As part of the new extension, “Sal Pal” will continue to cover the NFL for SportsCenter, Sunday NFL Countdown, NFL Live and Fantasy Football Now, and will remain host of the long-running NFL Matchup show on Sunday mornings. In addition, he has a regular presence at NFL Draft and the owners meetings, and reports on other sports and major stories throughout the year.

A veteran of 26 Super Bowls, Paolantonio is one of the most prominent and respected NFL voices. He has lived in the Philadelphia area since 1985, covering the Eagles for 26 years, including Super Bowl LII in 2018 and the team’s championship parade. In 2018, he authored Philly Special: The Inside Story of How the Philadelphia Eagles Won Their First Super Bowl Championship, his most recent of the four books he’s written.
Prior to joining ESPN in August 1995, Paolantonio was a political reporter (1985-93), as well as a beat reporter for the Philadelphia Eagles (1993-95), for the Philadelphia Inquirer. In 1994, he won the Associated Press Sports Editors Award for Reporting, and in 1995, he was named Philadelphia’s Best Sportswriter by Philadelphia Magazine. He began his journalism career as a reporter for the Albany Times Union, where he received the Associated Press Managing Editor’s Award for Enterprise Reporting (1985). He received the 2017 Jack Newfield Courage in Journalism Award from the New York Daily News.
In addition to reporting for ESPN, Paolantonio served as a professor in the English department at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia from 2002 to 2008, where he taught courses in political and sports journalism and communications. He continues to regularly speak at other colleges and universities.
A native of Queens, N.Y., Paolantonio graduated from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1977 with a bachelor of arts degree in history. In 2013, the school honored him with the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. He also received a master’s degree in journalism from New York University in 1980. Paolantonio served in the United States Navy (1978-83) as a surface warfare officer in the Pacific Fleet and was awarded the United Nations Meritorious Service Medal in 1981 for his role in the rescue of Vietnamese refugees in the South China Sea. He retired as a full lieutenant in 1983. Paolantonio is also a member of the board of the Cooper University Hospital Foundation in Camden, N.J. and the Ron Jaworski Youth Partnership.
