The American Red Cross has put out the call for blood donors this Fall.
Anticipating a drop in eligible donors as flu season approaches, the Red Cross is seeking to “ensure a strong blood supply for patients in need,” the supplier of 40 percent of the nation’s blood said via an October 24 press release.
Blood donors of all blood types are in demand, with special emphasis on platelet and type O donations, the Red Cross said.
Donation opportunities will be available from November 1 to November 15 across Maryland.
Flu season is expected to impact the donor population because donors must be feeling healthy and well at the time of donation.
The Red Cross wishes to again emphasize that flu shots do not affect eligibility and the Red Cross continues to recommend a flu shot as a means to maintain wellness.
