Donald John Trump, seemingly motivated by a nakedly racist and political agenda and perhaps even darker instincts only a demented psyche could conjure, attacked Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings via Twitter in a series of posts on July 27, the district and city he represents. And the 45th president continued his somewhat unhinged tirade today (July 28) and added the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a Baltimore native to the fray.

“Someone please explain to Nancy Pelosi, who was recently called racist by those in her own party, that there is nothing wrong with bringing out the very obvious fact that Congressman Elijah Cummings has done a very poor job for his district and the City of Baltimore,” posted Trump via Twitter.

On July 27, Trump had referred to Baltimore as “a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” and argued, “no human would want to live there.”

The reaction against Trump by Baltimore residents, the city’s leaders and people across the nation siding with the city has been fast and furious.

“It’s completely unacceptable for the political leader of our country to denigrate a vibrant American city like Baltimore, and to viciously attack U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings a patriot and a hero,” stated Baltimore Mayor Bernard “Jack” Young. “Mr. Trump’s rhetoric is hurtful and dangerous to the people he’s sworn to represent. As the Mayor of Baltimore, I won’t stand for anyone, not even the alleged Leader of the Free World attacking our great City or our representative to congress.”

Bishop Talbert Swan, is an American prelate of the Church of God in Christ, serving as the Bishop of the Nova Scotia Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, in Canada, took aim at Trump via Twitter. He responded to today’s Twitter attack by Trump on Pelosi and Cummings with the following:

“HAPPY SUNDAY RAPIST! Today is a good day to go to church and repent for being lying, lowlife, obtuse, racist, p*ssy grabbing, sexual predator.”

The Baltimore Sun also offered a blistering op-ed in defense of Baltimore with a concise and cogent headline, “Better to Have a Few Rats Than to Be One.”

The AFRO will continue to report on Trump’s racist attacks on Baltimore and its citizens this week in the newspaper and on-line.
