A cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers took a knee during the playing of the National Anthem prior to the start of a game against the Oakland Raiders Nov. 1.
The unidentified woman is, reportedly, the first NFL cheerleader to kneel during the anthem since former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick first initiated the trend two years ago in protest of police brutality and racism in the U.S. https://www.npr.org/2018/11/02/663594281/nfl-cheerleader-kneels-during-national-anthem
The cheerleader is now just the fourth person in the entire NFL to have kneeled during the 2018 season; Miami Dolphins receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson both have kneeled before every game this season, while Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid has kneeled before the few games he’s played since being signed nearly a month ago.
Several fans in the stadium captured images of the kneeling cheerleader. NBC reporter Damian Trujillo also tweeted a close-up photo of the cheerleader.
Speculation now builds over whether the 49ers cheerleader will lose her job.
