Frieze week is upon us again. Below, a guide to various fairs opening this week, from 1-54 to TEFAF.
Frieze New York
May 2–6
Frieze New York returns to Randall’s Island Park for its 26th edition, helmed for the first time by the fair’s new artistic director, Loring Randolph. In addition to an architectural redesign, a new section, “For Your Infotainment,” which focuses on the legacy of the late gallerist Hudson, will be added to the fair, alongside its recurring “Frame,” “Live,” and “Spotlight” sections. Tracey Emin, Theaster Gates, Zoe Leonard, and Arthur Jafa are among the artists at the fair whose work will be the subject of solo presentations at various booths, and Kapwani Kiwanga, the first-ever Frieze Artist Award winner, will debut a newly commissioned work. Frieze runs a ferry and bus service to the fair, and recommends that these tickets be booked in advance, as there self-parking is prohibited on the island. Single-day admission excluding transportation is $48.

1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair
May 4–6
The fourth New York edition of 1-54 will present 21 international exhibitors and artworks from over 60 artists hailing from Africa and its diaspora at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn’s Red Hook neighborhood. Alongside the exhibitors’ booths, the fair will host a “Forum” talks program that will “make more living room by exploring the political potentials of intimacy,” according to a release. Single-day admission is $20; students with valid ID may enter for free on May 4.

TEFAF Spring
May 4–8
The Maastricht-based fair TEFAF will take up residence for the second spring in a row at the Park Avenue Armory. (TEFAF also hosts a fall edition in New York each year.) Ninety modern and contemporary art dealers will convene; new participants include Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Marian Goodman Gallery, Lévy Gorvy, and Mnuchin Gallery. Single-day tickets costs $55.

May 3–6
Presented by Art Miami, the East Coast iteration of this modern and contemporary art fair returns to Pier 94 for a fourth year. More than 95 galleries from 30 countries will present works from a range of artists; works by David Hockney, Jean Michel Basquiat, Pablo Picasso, and Josef Albers will be on view. A complimentary shuttle will run during fair hours between Pier 94 and the Frieze ferry at East 35th Street. Single-day admission is $25.

Moniker
May 3–6
The first international outing of this London-based fair will debut at the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn. Moniker focuses on emerging and established artists, with an emphasis on murals, street art, and public work; installations by 14 solo artists and exhibitions from 14 galleries will be on view. A day pass to the fair costs $15.

Salon Zürcher
May 1–6
For its 20th edition, the mini art fair Salon Zürcher will bring together six galleries in Zurcher Gallery’s NoHo space. This year’s exhibitors include Galerie La Forest Divonne (Paris), Norte Maar (New York), Gallery Pixi – Marie Victoire Poliakoff (Paris), Galerie Motte Masselink (Paris), Mathilde Hatzenberger Gallery (Brussels), and Galerie Louis Gendre (Chamalieres/Paris). No tickets are necessary.
