Samyia Spain was stabbed to death and her sister; Sanyia suffered a stab wound to her arm.
Two 19-year-old Brooklyn twins were attacked and stabbed after rejecting a man’s advances. The rejection left one of the twin girls dead and the other wounded.
According to The New York Daily News, Samyia Spain was stabbed to death, and her sister, Sanyia, suffered a stab wound to the arm at a bodega in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn early Sunday morning. A man, who was reportedly drunk, tried to hit on Samyia, and according to their grandfather, Alphonso Goodson, she told the man that she did not “want to be bothered” with him. After he was rejected, the store owner kicked him out, and he left the store angry.
Goodson told The New York Post that the man “started kicking on the door” and banging on the door after he was kicked out of the bodega. He then stated that the man was outside waiting for the twins, who were with friends, when they came out of the store. He attacked them after they left the store.
“He was waiting for them,” he said. “He took it the wrong way. He came after them. That was wrong. That was dead wrong. I hope they catch this guy.”
The man stabbed Samyia in the chest, while her sister, Sanyia, was stabbed in the arm. Both were taken to New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where Samyia was later pronounced dead. Sanyia was listed in stable condition.
The incident took place around 2:20 a.m. on March 17.
According to their aunt, the Spain twins had just left a party at a nearby club, where the suspect also attended. He was with another man when the girls were approached at the bodega. She stated the men were drunk.
“They’re not sober. They get rejected, and they just escalate it tenfold. We (were) all having a good night before this,” a witness to the stabbing said. “We just had left, and we went to the store to get food. We all were getting sandwiches, beef patties just to eat. We’re hungry and want to go home, and this happens.”
Both men fled after the stabbing, and there have been no arrests as the police continue the investigation.
