Prizes
A new art prize has been created with a $1 million purse, making it one of the largest in the world. Nomura Holdings, Inc., a Japanese financial holding company, is behind the award. [ARTnews]
The check that comes with the annual Audain Prize for Visual Art, which is devoted to artists in British Columbia, has been increased from $30,000 to $100,000 Canadian (about $22,500 to $75,000 in U.S. dollars). [CBC]

Carol Vogel profiled Brice Marden, who will have a show of 60 drawings at Gagosian in Paris next month. Marden, now 80, is at work on new paintings, and last summer “had a sellout, one-night-only exhibition and dinner at Villa Malaparte, the 1938 Modernist house perched over a cliff on the Gulf of Salerno in Capri, Italy,” organized by Larry Gagosian. Among the guests were Steven A. Cohen, Jimmy Iovine, and LeBron James. [The New York Times]

After criticism, Hudson Yards in New York tweaked its terms and conditions pertaining to images that visitors upload of Thomas Heatherwick’s Vessel to say that the photo takers “retain ownership of any photographs, text, audio recordings or video footage depicting or relating to the Vessel.” The development had previously claimed the right to use such material “for any purpose whatsoever in any and all media.” [The New York Times]
An artist named Stan Herd has created a massive portrait of presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke using sand, rocks, and the like that is almost the size of two football fields and visible from the air. [New York Post]
