Entrepreneurs in Detroit are providing solutions to combat food deserts by building indoor farms that grow kale, basil, and lettuce. There are even people working on fish farming.

“Fifteen, 20 years from now, we want people to say, ‘Of course they grow kale in that building.’”

It is great seeing community members develop solutions to food deserts in our communities.

3. Milwaukee Sets Curfew After the Killing of Sylville Smith by the Police. [via Huff Post Black Voices]

The city of Milwaukee has set a 10 p.m. curfew in order to stop the protests that have been in response to the police killing of Sylville Smith.

“There is a curfew that will be more strictly enforced tonight for teenagers.”

It is also important to note that Milwaukee is one of the most segregated cities in America. While many news outlets claim that the protests started the violence, it is important to remember that the violence began with segregation that has economically deprived the Black community, not protests.
While the police have called for the end of protests, we are reminded that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “a riot is the language of the unheard.”
