X Games Sydney 2018 Day Two News and Results — International Stars Shine

Another sunny day welcomed a packed house of fans to Spotless Stadium for the second day of X Games Sydney competition. The hometown fans were in for a treat as Gold Coast native Kyle Baldock added his tenth X Games medal today at the inaugural X Games Sydney BMX Dirt competition, along with a double Aussie podium in Moto X Freestyle. Coming down to the final run, Rob Adelberg of Benalia took bronze while Donnybrook native Josh Sheehan took silver, kicking off his quest to earn three medals at one event. It is worth noting, Aussies have taken 14 of the last 18 medals in Moto X Best Trick and Freestyle. Tommy Fynn, a Brisbane native, qualified in Men’s Skateboard Street, where he’ll compete tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Sydneysider and defending X Games Minneapolis gold medalist Brandon Loupos came in sixth in BMX Dirt.

The second day of X Games Sydney competition kicked off with a crowd-favorite BMX Dirt final. With Sydney local Brandon Loupos attempting to defend his X Games Minneapolis gold against fellow Aussie medal threats Kyle Baldock and Logan Martin, the crowd was primed from the start. However, it was Polish rider Dawid Godziek surprising the crowd, throwing down a 90.33 to win gold on just the third overall run of the event. Gold Coast native Kyle Baldock threw down an explosive first run, earning his first-ever X Games silver medal with his mother in attendance for the first time. Minneapolis native Colton Walker rounded out the podium with a third place finish.

Next up was Moto X Freestyle, the first Moto X event of X Games Sydney 2018. With five of the 10 riders competing being Australians, it was clear the event was excited to be treated to the world’s best FMX action. Though it appeared Australians Josh Sheehan and Rob Adelberg had the top spots locked after their barrage of double backflips and front flips, Tom Pages used his last run to cement his Freestyle dominance and win his second consecutive gold medal with a bike flip and alley oop 540, leaving Sheehan and Adelberg to settle for silver and bronze, respectively.

After failing to land a run at X Games Minneapolis, Elliot Sloan was looking for redemption on the Big Air ramp in Sydney. Sloan landed an Indy 720 over the gap, into a backside 900 tail grab at 17 feet, five inches, earning his 10^th X Games medal and fourth gold. Brazilian Rony Gomes, the top qualifier, earned his first-ever X Games medal with a silver performance. Though he had a previous best finish of fourth, Gomes had never made the podium in 12 starts. American Trey Wood earned his second consecutive bronze medal in the event.

The final day of X Games Sydney will contest Men’s Skateboard Street, BMX Big Air and Moto X Best Whip, Best Trick and QuarterPipe.
