Veteran Head Coach to Provide Commentary for ESPN Studio Shows, Select Games

Veteran NBA head coach Stan Van Gundy is joining ESPN as an NBA analyst for the 2018-19 season. Van Gundy will primarily serve as a studio analyst, making appearances on several ESPN shows, including NBA Countdown, The Jump, Get Up!, SportsCenter, First Take and NBA specials. Van Gundy will debut on ESPN this Thursday, Oct. 4, appearing on Get Up!, First Take and SportsCenter.

In addition to his studio assignments, Van Gundy will serve as an analyst for select ESPN NBA and college basketball game telecasts.

“I am excited about the new challenge of providing analysis and opinion for ESPN,” said Stan Van Gundy.

 Stan Van Gundy’s brother, Jeff Van Gundy, has served as a signature ESPN NBA analyst since the 2007 NBA Finals. During the 2009 NBA Finals on ABC, Jeff was the game analyst as Stan coached the Orlando Magic against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Van Gundy most recently served as head coach and president of basketball operating for the Detroit Pistons (through the 2017-18 NBA season). He previously coached the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat. Van Gundy led the 2009 Orlando Magic to an Eastern Conference Championship and NBA Finals appearance. Prior to the NBA, Van Gundy was a college basketball head coach for eight years.
