Singapore’s National Arts Council announced that the nation’s pavilion at the forthcoming Venice Biennale, which is due to open in May 2019, will feature a musical offering courtesy of artist Song-Ming Ang. Working with curator Michelle Ho, he will present “Music For Everyone: Variations on a Theme,” the title of which is derived from a concert series of the same name that the Singaporean Ministry of Culture presented in the 1970s and 1980s.

This will be Singapore’s ninth time participating in the Venice Biennale. The National Arts Council’s director of sector development, Linda de Mello, told the Straits Times, “It traces our historical narrative in a scalable and accessible way. I hope those who see it will be fascinated to learn about the history of Singapore, and yet find its art very futuristic and cutting-edge.”
